Undefeated in 2018

UndefeatedTheBrokeMinimalist2018

Beware: this post is not for everyone. I'm writing this personally to everyone who struggled the majority of 2017. I'm talking about the person who was inconsistent with their poorly planned goals, discovered their own toxic behaviors, and crawled their way through most of last year. I mean, the person who continued pushing some people away, self-sabotaged some opportunities and burned some bridges. This is for the person whose insecurities were so blinding that they considered handing their life over to the enemy.

Don't you see that the enemy has been trying to kill you all last year? The enemy hit you where it hurt: He tried to steal your mind. You've struggled with finances, friendships, and your faith. You lost a lot last year...but by the grace of God, you were able to make it to this New Year. Congratulations! I'm so proud of you.

2018 is the year that the underdog will finally reign the UNDEFEATED champion. No longer will we be chained to anxiety, depression, our circumstances, and our failures.

Get ready to finally change for GOOD. "What!? How can I believe this, Deb?!" You are BREATHING right now. You STILL are standing. You ALREADY WON. Don't you get it? You're the champ because even when you lose by the world's standards, you win because you persevered by God's covering. No matter what pain you experience (James 1:2-4), in 2018 you will force yourself (with God's strength) to fight through it. Here's how...

You're 2018's UNDEFEATED Champ!!! But be warned...it's a FIGHT to wear the crown.

UNdefeated means to overcome in a contest, election, battle, etc.; prevail over; vanquish

Defeated means a setback; an overthrow; and the act of losing.

I don't know about you...but I'm not losing this year. I'm undefeated because I'm on the winning team. I rep Jesus and there's NO WAY that I can lose. Even when I take L's and setbacks, He works it out for MY good and sets a table before me in the prescence of my enemies.

You have to fight through your depression with counseling, exercise, meditation, and journaling. Fight through difficult friendships through listening instead of talking, healthy time apart, and seeing the good in them. Fight inconsistency with proper rest, focus, and fully accepting mistakes. Fight anger with forcing yourself to pray for your enemies, remember that God forgives YOU all the time, and see the good in people even when they hurt you. Fight financial hardship with budgeting, cutting back on expenses, and saving your money. Fight through toxic relationships by quietly distancing yourself, forgiving them for everything, and setting boundaries. Fight through negative thoughts by using your greatest weapon: the Word of God.

Don't believe me on the last one? Well, last night I got tested. I saw a friend post on Instagram about their other friend who doesn't like me, which sparked anger and envy in my heart. "Seriously?! After ALL I've done for you?! How dare you not post about ME!" LOL. Crazy right?! Well, the enemy will manipulate you to get mad at people for NO REASON. Ironically, that person and I are currently healing our friendship but the very behavior I was leaving in 2017 arose. Ugh, I felt so ugly.

So, I immediately got on my face and prayed. I laid hands on my head and said, "God, I find my value in You alone. Not my family, friends, job, money, career, or even blogging. But in YOU. You say that I am the head and NOT the tail. You say that I am worth dying for." It took me about 20 minutes for me to let it go. But remember this when the enemy and people try you.

You didn't die in the car accident that was supposed to kill you. You didn't get an STD when you had unprotected sex. You barely studied but STILL received your diploma while people dropped out. Your first marriage didn't last but God restored a large portion of your self-confidence.

Let's stop magnifying our pain, the people who left us, and being the victim of our stories. Yes, we had a TOUGH year. But as my Pastor Gail Song Bantum says, you must DECIDE that this is your year. Deciding to start the business. Deciding to love yourself. Deciding to lose the weight. Deciding to love again. Deciding to trust yourself. Deciding to trust God.
