What's A Capsule Wardrobe?

We all have closets stuffed to the brim and 99% of the time feel like we have nothing to wear to that special event or even on the daily, to work and class. But maybe you decluttered, sold and donated your clothes yet, you still find yourself running to the mall for that new piece. Well babes, I have a solution for you: Capsule Wardrobes.

A Capsule Wardrobe is a small collection, typically 37 pieces - not including shoes, workout clothes, or undergarments - of clothes that you can wear year round. Think high-quality basics to create hundreds of outfits of your favorite clothes that you'll actually wear. Now, if you're thinking 35 pieces is too little, you'd be surprised. Here's why you need a capsule...

  • YOU SHOP 2X OR MORE A MONTH + HAVE NO MORE CLOSET SPACE

Did you know that women wear only 20% of their wardrobe? So, if you're constantly buying clothes for after-work HH, networking events, and lounge wear then this is a sign that you need to find your style. More clothes gives you clutter NOT more variety. This is the best opportunity to carve out some time for a huge declutter party in your wardrobe. Feeling too overwhelmed then I highly recommend doing the Kon Mari method for an effective and easy closet-cleaning solution.

TIP: Make three piles: 1) Donation 2) Sell 3) Keep only the things you LOVE

  • YOU'RE WEARING TRENDS INSTEAD OF WHAT YOU LOVE

Fashion inspiration is a great resource, especially if it's from your favorite blogger on Instagram and Pinterest or from celebrities wearing stunning designer labels. But how often have you purchased something just for 'popularity' sake? I know I'm not the only one who DM'd someone asking where that long wool coat is from, right?! Well, this is a sign to be inspired by YOU and take wear what you love even if it's not "trending".

TIP: If you love wearing ankle boots year round verses the pink-strappy fur heels that's all over social media then wear your boots! You can look current by wearing clothes that are tailored and fit your body the best, regardless if it makes magazines' trend list.

  • YOU ONLY WEAR A FEW THINGS IN ROTATION, ANYWAY:

Still wearing that white button down for the 3rd time this week? Then maybe it should in your Capsule wardrobe! Some of you have already picked out your favorite pieces and you don't even realize it. If you are wearing an item multiple times a week or you always gravitate towards jeans + t-shirt + blazer as your uniform then it's time to create more looks with those pieces.

TIP: The capsule formula - i.e. # of pants x # of tops = the amount of outfits. That's not including the sweaters, jackets, coats, dresses, or skirts. Basically, you just realized that the Capsule way gives you MORE outfits and saves you MORE $$$.

So, what did you decide? Capsule or no Capsule?
